Refreshing Tradition - Scot Hinson

Produced by Liz Demos

They’re young, they’re creative, they’re driven — and they have a deep appreciation for classic design and architecture. (That’s what you get when you have a cutting-edge art school in an historic Southern town.)  Meet the 5th of 5 bright local designers who are putting a fresh face on our gorgeous grand dame of a city.

Scot Hinson

“I refresh tradition by reviving it with a new color palette.”

My style:  Livable.  A room can have a great look, but if it is impractical — forget it!

I’m inspired by:  The chic interiors of Billy Baldwin, David Hicks and Frances Elkins.  Phillipe Starck also creates dramatic public spaces.  I could never live in one, but they’re great for bars and restaurants.

Budget design tip:  Be confident.  Something can cost a dollar from a junk store and look like a million bucks, all if you believe in yourself.

Favorite room:  The kitchen.  I love to cook.

Fabulous find:  Two works of art — one was a pencil-signed Dali I got in a Goodwill store for $2, and the other was an original Henry Moore collage I purchased from a restaurant for $100.

Savannah I’m a big fan of patina — and boy, is there ever some here!’s style:

*You know Scot as the designer of Bar Food.
