Part of our Salute to Sci-Fi Weekend. One peaceful morning in Midwich, England, time stops. All the residents, livestock and wildlife slump to the ground, asleep. The military determines the seemingly arbitrary perimeter and their attempts to enter the area of the phenomenon are foiled. Then, as suddenly as it began, life returns. All seems normal, until all the women in the village are pregnant - and are due at the same time. As the children grow up, it becomes clear they are not quite human. It is left to Gordon Zellaby (George Sanders) to investigate.
Part Twilight Zone and part classic Avengers, this film explores the themes of alien intelligence, Cold War paranoia and the fear of the unknown.
77 minutes. Not Rated. www.myspace.com/savfilmsociety -
The Dhamma Brothers (2008)
What:The Dhamma Brothers (2008)Where:Lucas TheatreWhen:October 11th, 2008Contact:Tickets are $8 general admission, $6 seniors/military and $4 with SCAD ID. Available by calling 912-525-5050 or at www.lucastheatre.comDescription:Presented by the Savannah Film Society. East meets West in the Deep South. An overcrowded maximum-security prison -- the end of the line in Alabama's correctional system -- is forever changed by the influence of an ancient meditation program. The Dhamma Brothers tells a dramatic tale of human potential and transformation as it closely follows and documents the stories of 36 prison inmates who enter into this arduous and intensive program. It challenges assumptions about the nature or prisons as places of punishment rather than rehabilitation and raises the questions: is it possible for these men, some of whom committed horrendous crimes, to change? View the trailer at the official site www.dhammabrothers.com or before Forbidden Planet on Oct 3 and Village of the Damned on Oct 4 at the Lucas Theatre. www.myspace.com/savfilmsociety
